The Campaign for Social Science, Insights North East and the Institute for Social Science is delighted to invite you to an event chaired by Will Hutton, President of the Academy of Social Sciences.

Can we achieve a more equal North East? will be an insightful event featuring a panel of academic and practitioner experts offering a wide range of social sciences perspectives. This event is a part of the Campaign for Social Science’s Election 24: ideas for change series.

The event will take place on Tuesday, 6th February at the Common Room in Newcastle Upon Tyne from 13:30 to 16:00. Drinks reception to follow.

Following some introductory remarks from Will, we will continue with presentations from several speakers who will set out actionable insights for an audience of local and national policymakers and focus on recommendations that can be taken up by policy-makers at both a regional and national level.

Confirmed speakers:

– Professor Clare Bambra (Newcastle University): Findings on health inequalities and what we need to do now

– Professor Greta Defeyter (Northumbria University): Automatic enrolment for free school meals

– Sara Bryson (Tyne and Wear Citizens) and Professor Liz Todd (Newcastle University): Real Living Wage and Real Living Hours

– Claire Crow (Health Works): Social prescribing with and for children and young people

Following the speaker presentations, we will have a small response panel made up of local / regional leaders / MPs. The panel will be annouced shortly.
