Join Insights North East for this masterclass exploring a range of aspects of local and regional development running over Winter 22-23. Each session will run for 1½ hours and will introduce a different topic with expert speakers from the worlds of research, policy and practice. As well as presentations from speakers here will be opportunities for questions and discussion. Participants can join us in person or online for these hybrid events.

This session will explore different levels of powers and decision making at the various levels of governance from local to sub-national and national. It will explain what is within the grasp of local policy makers, what is determined nationally and how the two shape each other’s policies and practice. Speakers will address where the real powers lie and how local and regional actors can increase their influence.

Featured speakers for session 2:

  • Joyce Liddle (Northumbria University, Insights North East)
  • Liz Shutt (Insights North East)
  • Andrew Batterbee (Cities and Local Growth Unit)

Chair: Alison Clarke (Newcastle University, Insights North East)
